The future health campus will be built on Edmonton Street!

This is yet another decisive step towards carrying out the project, but it’s especially great news for the entire region!

This project will provide a new health and social services facility to meet the current and future needs of the population in our beautiful region.

A very large property

The property is 325,000 square metres and will be large enough to accommodate a building of this size, in addition to being close to major roadways and adequately serviced by public transit. Therefore, it will be easy for staff and users to get there through the closeness of the roadways and the public transit system.

Things are moving fast! The project is now moving to the business case phase. This process is expected to lead to a call for tenders being launched in summer 2024.

“Through this ambitious health campus project, which is accessible and sustainable, our population will finally achieve the equity it deserves in terms of health care. Today, the entire community together is behind this project to make it a source of pride in the region. I would like to thank all the people involved in this very important project. I often say: it’s when we all work together, as a team, that we can accomplish great things!”

Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Families and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region

Expropriation procedures will have to be undertaken. The people in question will be informed in the coming weeks and will also be kept fully informed throughout the process.

In the upcoming days, the government will proceed with the work leading to the imposing a reserve for public purposes on the selected site.

The project consists of building a university-affiliated hospital centre (UAHC) that will make it possible to consolidate the care offering in the Outaouais. This 600-bed hospital, which will bring together all specialties, except mental health, will be on the cutting edge of technology and new health practices.

Based on the clinical needs recognized by the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS), the new hospital will cover 271,265 square metres.

About 30 locations were considered and analyzed by an assessment committee made up of representatives from the MSSS, the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) of Outaouais, and the Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI). Discussions were also held starting in winter 2021 among the CISSS, the SQI, and various public bodies, including the Ministère des Transports du Québec, the Société de transport de l’Outaouais, and the National Capital Commission.
